“Tastiest challah every single time. My family fights over the ends!”
The pomegranate has carried meaning in Jewish life for thousands of years. It is one of the seven species of the Land of Israel, a symbol of abundance, blessing, and a life filled with mitzvot — its seeds, traditionally said to number 613, mirror the 613 commandments of the Torah. On the Rosh Hashanah table it appears as a siman, a symbolic food, eaten with the prayer that our merits in the coming year should be as numerous as its seeds. A honey dish shaped as a pomegranate, then, is not simply a decorative object. It brings two of the most resonant symbols of the Jewish New Year together in one piece.
This honey dish is the work of Yair Emanuel, one of Israel's most recognised Judaica designers. Born in Kibbutz Sha'alvim and trained at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, Emanuel's work is characterised by a fusion of traditional Jewish motifs with contemporary form. This piece is cast from aluminium, painted in a deep red enamel, and shaped as a pomegranate with the crown detail visible on the top half, which lifts away to reveal the dish beneath. Dimensions are 13cm wide x 11cm deep x 14cm tall — substantial enough to sit confidently at the centre of a table. Made in Israel.
Serve it filled with honey alongside the apple slices and round challah for the traditional Rosh Hashanah dip, or use the base year-round for olives, nuts, dips, or sweets on your Shabbat table. The lid keeps the honey covered between courses, and the cast aluminium holds its finish well over time. It also makes a considered Rosh Hashanah gift for a host family, a newly married couple, or anyone setting up a Jewish home. Order by Thursday 10th September 2026 for delivery before Rosh Hashanah, which begins on the evening of Friday 11th September 2026.
